Try as he could to defeat the Spanish before they could dominate Cuba, Hatuey, chief of the indigenous people, was eventually captured and burned at the steak. The night before his death a priest offered to give him salvation, but learning that Heaven is where Spaniards went after death, Hatuey decided he'd rather go to Hades.
